About Warrior Insure
Insurance guides written for federal employees and veterans, by one of them.
Why this site exists
Most insurance advice online is written for a general audience and then lightly relabelled for the military or federal market. It does not know what an SF 2817 is, when open season closes, or why Option B stops being a good deal at 60. The gaps are not small, and they cost real money.
Warrior Insure covers the parts of insurance that are specific to federal employees, service members and veterans: FEHB, FEGLI, FEDVIP, VGLI, and the auto and home questions that come with PCS moves, deployments and VA loans.
Who writes it
Everything here is written by Anshul Meena. I am a federal employee, a Post-9/11 GI Bill veteran, and I hold a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ohio State. I have spent my federal career in technology and programme delivery, which mostly means I read rules for a living and translate them for people who have to act on them.
Warrior Insure is an independent publication with no affiliation to, or endorsement by, any federal agency or insurer. I write here in a personal capacity. Nothing on this site represents the views of any federal agency, and nothing here is produced using government time, equipment or information.
How the guides are written
- Primary sources first. Rates and rules come from OPM, the VA, the IRS and carriers' own published pages, not from other blogs.
- Every figure is dated. Each guide carries a line saying what was checked and when, because these numbers change every year.
- Arithmetic is shown. If a page says an election costs $46,980 over twenty years, the inputs are on the page so you can check the work.
- Corrections are made in public. If something here is wrong, tell me and it gets fixed with the update date changed.
What this site is not
This is education, not advice. I am not a licensed insurance agent, a financial adviser, an attorney or a benefits officer, and nothing here is a recommendation for your situation. Before you act, confirm the details with OPM, the VA, your HR benefits office, your plan brochure, or a licensed professional. Full terms are on the terms of use page.
No page here sells insurance, quotes insurance, or passes your information to anyone who does.
How it is paid for
Some links to insurers may earn a commission. That never decides what gets covered or how anything is ranked, and the criteria are published on the advertiser disclosure page.
The Warrior Network
Warrior Insure is one of four sites covering the federal and veteran world: Federal Warrior for career and pay, Warrior Retirement for FERS, TSP and retirement, and Warrior Disability for VA and federal disability claims.
